TRAIL is managed by a Board of Directors. The Board consists of elected positions including President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary, and includes the chairpersons of the following committees: Programming, Fundraising & Development, Special Events, Finance, Family Support, PR & Marketing, and Volunteer Coordinator.

The Board oversees the smooth running of the organization, assuming responsibilities for such areas as establishing policies and procedures guidelines, setting/monitoring budgets, and coordinating a calendar of events.

Meetings are held on every second wednesday of each month, but may be subject to change as 
the need arises.

Founder/Program Coordinator

Al Langlais al@trail4kids.org

Al has been committed to improving the lives of special needs individuals his entire life. As an older sibling to a brother with Down’s syndrome, Al grew up seeing firsthand the opportunities that were denied to his brother due to his disability. He was trained in the Army as a psychiatric technician, behavioral specialist, and occupational therapist, and has been employed as Motor Skills Specialist for the special needs students enrolled in the Fall Mountain Regional School District for 10 years. Al brings to TRAIL extensive knowledge and experience in working with special needs children; in particular, the effects of their disabilities on their gross and fine motor function. His skills include sign language and aptitude in all of the recreational activities offered through TRAIL. Al is also the Local Program Coordinator for Fall Mountain Special Olympics, and serves as Head Coach in soccer, floor hockey, alpine skiing, weightlifting, swimming, and track & field events.

Paul Judd paul@trail4kids.org

Paul brings to TRAIL a wealth of experience both as a volunteer in numerous non-profit and fraternal organizations, and as a small business owner. In addition, he has accumulated many years of experience working with children as a coach for various recreational sports teams and Cub Scouts, and has served on committees for organizations such as the March of Dimes. Paul assumed the Presidency in 2007, and he also contributes his talents and experience in the recreational adventures we offer.

Courtney Porter courtney@trail4kids.org

Courtney first began volunteering for TRAIL in 2004 while working as a special educator at Charlestown Primary School. She brings to the program an understanding of the special education process as well as knowledge of early childhood development. In 2005, she became the board’s Secretary. When not working with TRAIL, she enjoys spending time with her two children, Andrea and Cade; camping, biking and enjoying the outdoors. Courtney has been the board’s Vice-President since 2007. She lives in Alstead and teaches at The Orchard School.

A resident of Springfield, VT, Jean was born and raised in Wilmington, NC and moved to Vermont in 1963.She is the mother of 5, grandmother of 7, and great-grandmother of 2!Jean has her own accounting and tax business; Colbrady Services LLC.As an enrolled agent with the IRS, she has been preparing income taxes since 1976.Jean and her husband spent five years as owner/operators of a community care home for physically and mentallychallenged and/or elderly individuals. She worked in the machine shop industry for 28 years as a machinist, electrical quality control, and purchasing agent.

 
Fundraising and Development Committee

Lynn Kroian lynn@trail4kids.org

The mother of both typically developing and special needs children, Lynn offers a critical perspective to the Executive Board. Formerly the Development Director for David’s House in Lebanon, NH, Lynn has recently resumed teaching music at three elementary schools in the Fall Mt. School District. She is a graduate of Antioch New England Graduate School with a Master’s degree in Human Services Administration, focusing on fundraising and development. Lynn serves on the Board of the Fall Mt Area Healthy Youth Initiative, and also volunteers for Fall Mountain Special Olympics as an assistant coach in soccer, floor hockey, alpine skiing, swimming, and track & field events.

Along with her husband John, Dee serves on the Executive Board, offering invaluable input into the workings of our organization as parents of a child receiving services through TRAIL. Together they personify the true “TRAIL” family – in 2006 they both learned to downhill ski with us, in order to be able to join their son Justin in an activity he had learned to enjoy. Today the Millikens ski as a family, without need of our support.

Formerly a paraprofessional in the Fall Mt School District, today Kristen is Family Services Coordinator for Pathways of the River Valley, helping local families identify and access resources to meet their child’s special needs.

Members At Large

Pat Barrett pat@trail4kids.org

Pat is an inspiration to all of us at TRAIL. A retired elementary educator, she took up skiing in order to help facilitate our adaptive downhill skiing program! Pat is a dedicated volunteer at all events, and brings a rich intergenerational dynamic to TRAIL.

Barbara DeMatteo barbara@trail4kids.org

Barbara is a licensed Physical Therapist who consults to local school districts and directs her own private practice in Keene. Barbara co-chairs the Program Committee and is a valuable resource in assisting us to accommodate the complex medical needs of the children we serve.


Volunteers

Our staff is all-volunteer. All persons wishing to join TRAIL as a volunteer are required to sign a confidentiality agreement, to agree to a criminal background check, and to provide the Executive Board with references upon request. Volunteers are ALWAYS needed!
