Camp nurses are an integral part of the overall camp experience. They are encouraged to participate in all activities and allow the campers to know them as individuals. The nursing volunteer experience is a coveted one with many nurses returning year after year, giving up vacation time to enjoy this experience.

Nurses are housed in donated houses on the island. This allows for time away from camp, a chance to enjoy the island, take a breath, and relax. Transportation to houses is gladly provided when shifts change.

Camp Safe Haven offers:
  • FLEXIBLE 12 hour shift Scheduling,
  • Wonderful Lodging in some of the islands premier properties, donated for our exclusive use for nurses staying over night,
  • All meals,
  • FUN activities with the kids.
Primary responsibilitiesfor our nurses include:
  • Dispensing prescribed medications according to Doctor's orders.
  • Basic care (minor injuries, scratches etc)
  • General oversite including when necessary, blood pressure, temp, general health.
We hope you will join us. Nurses are the cornerstone of a successful and safe camp experience and many hands make the work more fun and relaxed for all.

Safe Haven is unable to accept nurses from outside the United States, unless they hold a current license from Massachusetts or a reciprocal.

Licensing

All nurses are required to have a current license in Massachusetts or from a state that is reciprocal.  A temporary license maybe acquired  if necessary and if desired, Safe Haven will forward information on this process upon your request.

STUDENT NURSES ARE WELCOME

Student nurses can not dispense medications. And there are a limited number of spaces in order to maintain our ratio.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES FOR NURSES

Unlike most camp which may have one nurse on duty for the entire camp program, Safe Haven believes that more hands make lighter work for everyone. This is why we invite so many nurses to join us for the camp week. We have what we believe is the highest ratio of nurses to campers in the field. This high ratio not only allows for greater sensitivity of care, but also allows for nurses to have quality time with campers both within the setting of the nurses station, and in activities they participate in with the kids. We believe that campers should have the pleasure of spending time with our nurses in a setting that allows nurses to relax into the experience.
