Living independently in New Circle Vistas
For Antoine, “there is nothing better than my independence!” He uses a wheelchair and, for the majority of his life, his only housing option was to live with his mom, which limited his independence. Then he found out about Circle Vistas apartments and his life changed.
For the last three years, Antoine has lived on his own in an accessible and affordable apartment. “This has been great,” he said. “But it needs some improvements, like an automatic door opener on my apartment.” Automatic door openers for every apartment entry door are one of the goals for the Capital Campaign.
Antoine’s looking forward to New Circle Vistas and the improvements it will have: “It will be more convenient for all of us, not just myself.” With your support, Antoine and his neighbors will soon have a new, fully accessible home and be able to live even more independently.

About New Circle Vistas
The New Circle Vistas project is an opportunity for Maximum Accessible Housing of Ohio to take advantage of a rare set of circumstances. It will provide the best accessible and affordable housing for people with physical mobility disabilities. It will be a model of accessibility with an accessible housing training suite.
When we renovated an old furniture warehouse into Circle Vistas in 1984, it was the first apartment community in Northeast Ohio specifically designed to allow people with mobility disabilities to live independently. Over 25 years later, the building and the accessibility features are becoming obsolete: all units are heated by costly electric baseboard heating; there is a short incline at the entrance to the small shower stalls; and support beams in some units create barriers to residents who use wheelchairs.
We are committed to making this project a model of accessible housing. The tenants of Circle Vistas are excited about and supportive of New Circle Vistas, embracing the opportunity to live in a new, modern, sustainable, green building with outstanding accessibility. New Circle Vistas will be a 36-unit, four-story apartment building (same number of units as the existing building).
Not only do our tenants need accessibility features, they also need affordability: their average income is less than $1,000 a month. We have received permission from the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to transfer the Section 8 contract from the current building to New Circle Vistas. This will enable our tenants to continue to pay only 30% of their income toward rent.
