1981 Maximum Independent Living (MIL) is formed by Lutheran Metropolitan Ministry and Services for Independent Living to address the need for accessible, affordable housing for people with physical disabilities.
1984 Circle Vistas opens in University Circle as the first apartment in Northeast Ohio specifically designed to allow people with physical disabilities to live independently.
1989 Pine Tree Vistas in Parma opens.

1990s

1993 Paralyzed Veterans of America, Buckeye Chapter, becomes a co-sponsor of MIL.
1995 Lake Vistas in Mentor-on-the-Lake opens, bringing accessible housing to Lake County.
1996 MIL’s first Lorain County project, Sheffield Vistas in Sheffield Township, opens.
1998 Meadow Vistas opens in Avon Lake.

2000 MIL conducts major survey on housing needs of people with physical disabilities. The results guide MIL in forming strategic goals and plans.
2001 As part of a collaborative effort including MIL, distribution of rent subsidy vouchers specifically for people with physical disabilities begins.
2002 A joint-venture housing project results in 12 new accessible, single-family homes.
2002 MIL holds its first major fundraiser: a successful luncheon featuring George Stephanopoulos.
2003 The Accessible Housing Resource Center is officially launched to provide accessible housing training, education, and advocacy.
2004 MIL conducts its first comprehensive series of seminars on accessible and universal design.
2005 HousingCleveland.org launches. MIL is one of the leaders in the creation of this on-line, searchable database of affordable and accessible housing.
2007 On January 1, 2007, Maximum Independent Living changes its name to Maximum Accessible Housing of Ohio (MAHO) to better reflect its mission and programs.
2007 MAHO launches the Achieving Accessible Housing Seminar Series aimed at both housing professionals and caregivers and advocates.
2008 Executive Director Stephen Hansler serves on the Ohio Housing Finance Agency’s State Housing Plan committee with 25 other housing leaders from all over the state. He is selected to chair the accessible housing sub-committee.

2010s

2010 The New Circle Vistas project is awarded low-income housing tax credits, the final piece of funding needed to proceed with this fully accessible and green replacement building for Circle Vistas.
2011 MAHO will launch the Accessible Housing Resource Center Web site, a searchable Web site with comprehensive accessibility information.
2012 New Circle Vistas will open, replacing the original Circle Vistas. It will provide state-of-the-art accessibility and green design.
2013 The Accessible Housing Resource Center will open in New Circle Vistas, featuring a model unit, displays, information, and seminar space.
