drugfree idaho, Inc.(DFI), incorporated in 1999, is a non-profit 501(C)(3) organization that works to create a drug-free culture within our workplaces, schools and communities. drugfree idaho, Inc. is governed by a Board of Directors which includes community, business, and law enforcement leaders. We are funded by revenue from our drug testing program, grants,, corporate sponsors and donations. 
 
DFI began operations late in 2000, offering services to the workplace, schools, parents and the community the following year. In January 2005, PAYADA (Parents and Youth Against Drug Abuse), a community-based agency that had been providing substance abuse prevention education in the Boise area since 1982 was merged with drugfree idaho, Inc.
 
Vision/Objectives
  • Continue to help companies improve employee health, safety and productivity by providing drug-free workplace programs that equip them with the knowledge, opportunity and means to address substance abuse in the workplace.
  • Continue to help youth by sponsoring substance abuse prevention education classes for students and their parents, and by hosting community-wide events such as Red Ribbon Week and Youthfest, dedicated to promoting drug awareness and healthy decision making. 
  • Continue to help parents by creating customized parent education programs that can be delivered in the workplace, aimed at reducing youth substance use, increasing protective factors and improving parent/child relationships.

2008: People We Served 

In the workplace in 2008 DFI:

  • Helped 21 new businesses implement Drug-Free Workplace Programs.
  • Supported 96 existing business associates in maintaining Drug-Free Workplace Programs which reached approximately 3,600 employees.
  • Delivered Supervisor Training and Employee Education sessions to approximately 175 individuals, in their workplaces, almost all of them parents. 

In the schools in 2008 DFI:
  • Introduced 5,000 Treasure Valley students to Olympic Gold Medalist Kristin Armstrong during our Red Ribbon school assemblies and community presentations.  Kristen shared her commitment to live drug-free and inspired students to follow their dreams, work hard and surround themselves with others who will help them make the right choices in life.
  • Delivered 18 Parent and Youth Against Drug Abuse (PAYADA) classes reaching 285 5th, 6th and 7th graders and their parents.
  • Facilitated three sessions of Keep A Clear Mind, a parent-child drug education program designed to increase at home communication about drugs and drug use targeting approximately 300 fourth grade students and their parents.
  • Served 22,000 youth with the “It’s An Attitude” informational newsletters targeting substance abuse prevention, drug awareness, and healthy decision making.  

In the community in 2008 DFI:

  • Partnered with the Boise Hawks to present a family day of fun at the ballpark complete with educational booths, activities, community resources and fireworks!  Approximately 3,000 attendees joined us!
  • Took the field on October 1st with the Boise State Bronco’s at halftime to introduce the crowd of 33,000 to the meaning of the Red Ribbon Campaign and distributed 5,000 red wristbands to youth.
  • Hosted 1,100 students and community members at the annual Red Ribbon Rally at the Idaho Shakespeare Amphitheater,
  • Reached 132 parents through our Parent Project and Parenting Challenge education classes.
  • Participated in 17 community events with a combined attendance of approximately 2,000.
