What is an Endowment?

An endowment is a repository of permanent gifts that are never to be spent. Rather, through investment, these gifts increase in value and, from that increased value, annual distribution “gifts” are made in support of approved SLDC programs. The result is the ability of the endowment gift to provide for an annual contribution in perpetuity. Properly managed, the growth in value of gifts will assure that the annual distributions will increase beyond the rate of inflation. Donors’ contributions today can assure their philanthropy will extend well beyond their lifetime – a true legacy of service.

For many, there is the desire to assure future support for programs to which they have given support on a regular basis. That is the primary purpose of the Founders’ Fund Endowment program – to provide our donors the opportunity to establish a permanent legacy of annual support for SLDC.

Our endowment fund is named The Founders' Fund,
in honor of our Co-Founders, Aleen Agranowitz and Gladys Gleason.

In gratitude for all the services found in the work at SLDC and the students who have been touched by these efforts, members of the larger community are encouraged to support future work by remembering this organization in their estate plans. A person becomes a member of The Founders’ Fund when he or she makes a provision for SLDC through some form of planned gift. Members of the Founders’ Fund periodically receive helpful tax and financial planning information and invitations to special events to celebrate their thoughtful planning.
