The Workshop: The workshop is an introduction to felting needles as an embellishment and fiber painting tool. You will learn how to create layers on a background of pre -felted fabric. The process can be applied to felted, knitted or woven backgrounds enabling you to transform any project into a unique piece of art. You will receive step by step instruction, helpful hints and some hard learned secrets about the use of felting needles. Needle felting is an extremely forgiving process and the simplicity of the tool is amazing. No experience necessary. (*due to the extreme sharpness of needles, classes are adult only.)
The Instructor - Kelly Riley: Kelly has been a shepherd, spinner, felter, and artist for nearly 20 years. In an ongoing effort to share the wonderful world of wool, she has been conducting workshops and demonstrations at various fiber guilds, retreats, university textile departments, and her studio. She develops and sells felt products, felting kits, spinning wool and fiber related art, at craft and fiber shows, through mail order catalogs and her website, www.coyoterimfibers.com. Her formal education includes a BA in art and environmental design. Kelly is self- taught in fiber arts with years of adventurous exploration. Needle Felting Sculpture Workshop

Felt Sculptures by Kelly Riley
The Workshop: The workshop is an introduction to felting needles as a three-dimensional sculpting tool. You will learn how to transform carded batts of wool and various bits of color and curl into a fanciful sculpture. You will receive step by step instruction, helpful hints and some hard learned secrets about the use of felting needles. At the end of the session you will have a unique, felt- friend and the skills to create many more. Needle felting is an extremely forgiving process and the simplicity of the tool is amazing. No experience required.

Using your own images, we will manipulate them on photo editing software and print them on silk fabric. Then comes the fun of learning a few embroidery stitches and embellishing your image with stitch and beads.

Embellished Bag

Come to explore embellishment techniques and go home with a fun and dazzling little hand bag. Learn a few embroidery stitches using luscious threads. Add some beading techniques that sparkle and let’s get started. Bag kit provided by instructor. Great activity for friends get together or mother and daughter retreat.

Tyvek Sculptured Rose Buds

Tyvek is a super cool material that you can paint, stitch and melt as well protect a building from moisture. In this class we will form flower shapes with wire. Onto these we will stitch the painted tyvek and melt it to the shape desired. Once you’ve got it you will go crazy with this technique

Spend a relaxing day with Jody Sterne, mountain herbalist, story teller and world traveler. Learn simple ways to care for yourself and your family using plants from the forest, fields and the far reaches of your kitchen cupboard.
We will be making traditionally crafted herbal remedies including healing teas, a simple salve, elixirs and poultices with samples for you to take home.
Weather permitting we will take a leisurely stroll to look at plants and trees so wear real shoes and bring a jacket and sack lunch. Contact: jodystrn@aol.com to register. $100 tuition includes all supplies.
