There are currently more than 100 students enrolled in the Food for Thought program.
With the Christmas holidays, our volunteers packed lots of extra food to send home with the students before school let out.
In the meantime, we are reordering food, reorganizing our work site and gearing up for another semester of Food for Thought beginning in January.

Christmas box giving well underway!
With barely a week left before we close for the Christmas holiday, more than 1,000 families have come through the front door of Good Samaritan Ministries to pick up their Christmas boxes and grocery staples.
Many times there were lines forming outside the doors before we opened and remained steady throughout the day. Some days the families trickled in; others they came in spurts. But always, every family left with a box full of ingredients to make Christmas dinner and sacks of regular grocery staples.
Admittedly the boxes aren’t as full as they have been in times past. A down economy affects non-profits, too, and when donations are down, the amount of food given out is affected as well. Even at that, each family during the month of December will walk out the door with about 70 pounds of food.
There’s a different feel during December. It’s more than just needing groceries. There seems to be more of a sadness in the air.
“It’s hard enough knowing you need food or other assistance and having to ask for help any time of year,” said Angelia Bostick. “But there is something especially demeaning when it’s at Christmas time and instead of buying presents for your family you have to ask for help with food.
“Our staff and volunteers always treat the families who come in with dignity and respect, but that is especially important during this time of year when the burden just seems heavier.”
Through Friday, December 16, 1,095 families had stopped by 305 Clark Street to pick up their Christmas boxes.
Without the help and support from our community we would never be able to do what we do and we want you to know how much we appreciate each and every person who contributed money, food or time to help feed the hungry and hurting of Brown County.
Because of you, perhaps this Christmas will be a merry one for our friends and neighbors.
The staff, board and volunteers of GSM wish you all a very Merry Christmas and pray God’s blessings to you in the new year!
