 Volunteer Opportunities

Warm Hearts Drive: Starting Thanksgiving Weekend, visitors can drop off new hats, mittens and socks at the Museum to help needy children’s heads, hands, feet and hearts warm during the winter.

Ring the Bell: Salvation Army bell ringer is the classic holiday volunteer gig, and it's not too late to take part in this 100-year tradition. The Salvation Army also recruits volunteers to help sort toys, assist truck drivers on deliveries, or create and deliver food baskets.
617-542-5420.

S.K.I.P. - Special Kindness in Packages: S.K.I.P. is an all–volunteer organization that sends care packages to U.S. military members who are currently deployed overseas. http://www.skipcares.org/

Help Some Animals: Show your love for some furry, four-legged friends and volunteer at an animal shelter. The MSPCA in Boston advertises for volunteer caregivers, foster homes, and more to help with office duties, exercise animals, and clean kennels. You can find an animal shelter near you. While the need for volunteers at animal shelters is constant throughout the year, why not start during the holiday season? You could start the New Year with a new best friend.

Become a Wish Maker: Make-a-Wish has been granting the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions since 1980. The foundation sponsors several events around the holidays, including the upcoming Holiday Wish-a-Thon, but it also looks for volunteers to help with office work, or those with specialized skills such as photography, carpentry, and computer savvy.

Join a Volunteer Group: There are many organizations and nonprofits throughout Boston that plan and organize events to help those in need including: Single Volunteers Boston brings together like-minded single people in the Boston area for a number of charity events. Boston Cares organizes team-oriented volunteer opportunities throughout Greater Boston and provides dozens of volunteer opportunities throughout the holidays and the rest of the year. Volunteer Boston is a web-based organization that brings together community groups and volunteers. Check out this extensive list of nonprofit volunteer groups in Boston.

Songs and Games
Kids love any chance they get to be silly! You can also get silly too, by teaching them these popular songs and even some hand clapping games that you played as a kid at recess!

   Holiday Crafts
There are always awesome ways to make your own Holiday crafts and decorations if you don't have any! Check out these websites below to learn how to make your own!

  Suggested Reading
Parents, be a part of Easton Reads Together, a town-wide initiative that encourages us to read two books that may help develop ideas of benefit to our community with these books:

How the Grinch Stole Christmas
By Dr. Seuss
A Christmas classic. Kids delight in the wordplay of Dr. Seuss and learn about the important values of the holiday season.

How Santa Got His Job
By Stephen Krensky
A cute story about how Santa developed his job skills.

  The Christmas Day Kitten
By James Herriot
A warm tale of a small Christmas miracle. It's a great book to teach kids about generosity and kindness.
