| 10 for 10
At CRN, we continually strive to improve the lives of Atlanta’s homeless women and children and look for ways to make a big difference with limited resources. Traditionally, during the months of November and December, the generosity of individuals and groups is overwhelming. Appeals for food, Christmas gifts and cash donations result in thousands of needy women and children experiencing a happy holiday season. But what about the other 10 months of the year: January through October? The basic needs of food, shelter, clothing, personal products and medical care are always there with the number of women and children needing this kind of help growing every day.
The first two weeks in January, Atlanta has experienced record breaking low temperatures. As we jump into our heated cars and head to and from the grocery store, our place of business, or wherever our daily routine takes us, we cannot escape the biting cold as we get out. Warm coats, cozy heated homes, and steaming hot chocolate make the weather much more tolerable. How fortunate we are.
For Atlanta's homeless children, the frigid weather paints a totally different picture. Many do not own warm clothing that will protect them from the cold and living in a shelter or group home leaves much to be deesired in terms of comforts at home. There is no such thing as the family car to shuttle them to school, the grocery store, or the doctor. Walking and talking public transportation are their only means to get around.
10 for 10, our newest fundraising campaign, is asking you to reach into your pockets, down into the sofa cushions, and under the seat in your car for your spare change to donate about 35 cents a day, or $10 a month for ten months. A small amount of change can add up to a big difference in the lives of the more than 2,000 homeless women and children living in the shelters and group homes assisted by CRN.
