The Gambling Addiction Treatment and Education (GATE)
Program is beginning its third grant cycle and fifth year. Each year our program expands, evolves, and
improves.
Dianne Springborn, the program administrator, has received her Licensed
Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor Certificate as well as the Supervisor’s
certificate. This is in addition to her
Certified Problem Gambling Counselor Certificate and Supervisor’s certificate. She sits on the gambling oral boards for the
State Board of Examiners for Alcohol, Drug and Gambling Counselors.
Dani Whittaker passed both her written and oral State
examinations and is now a Certified Problem Gambling Counselor. Paula Chung, Certified Problem Gambling
Counselor Intern, is now attending school full-time and will be able to sit for
her tests in the near future. She is now
working half time.
We have added Lynn Dyas, MFT, LCADC-S, to our GATE program. She has now added Certified Problem Gambling
Counselor Intern to her curriculum vitae.She is a great asset to the program. She brings with her a wealth of mental health skills, especially in the
Cognitive Behavioral Category.
Joseph Bartholomew has received his Certified Problem Gambling
Counselor internship and has been added to the team. He is instrumental in the
triage unit and is able to identify the gamblers early on and add the gambling
component to the assessment when needed to speed up the treatment process.
An outreach presentation was made at the Federal Prison in
Herlong for both the staff and the inmates, reaching about 120 persons. A presentation was also made for the Nevada
State Welfare Department’s Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) unit
to explain the dynamics of gambling and the services offered at
Bristlecone.
