Wilderness First Aid
To provide individuals a foundation of first aid principles and skills to be able to respond to emergencies and give care in areas that do not have immediate emergency medical services (EMS) response. This includes wilderness and remote environments, including urban disasters, such as earthquakes and hurricanes
Length approximately 16 hours

Prerequisites
* Possess current adult CPR/AED certification
* Be at least 14 years of age on or before the last scheduled session of the course
 
 
 
Instructor Course for the Lay Responder CPR/FA/AED
Our train-the-trainer program allow you to become a Red Cross instructor and train others to save lives.  To become an instructor follow these steps:

Adult CPR and Standard First Aid
To train lay responders to overcome any reluctance to act in emergency situations and to recognize and care for life-threatening respiratory or cardiac emergencies in adults. Provide the lay responder with the knowledge and skills necessary in an emergency to help sustain life and to minimize pain and the consequences of injury or sudden illness until professional medical help arrives.

Prerequisites: None
Certificates Issued and Validity Period:
CPR - Adult CPR: 2 year
Standard First Aid: 2 years 
 
 

Standard First Aid with CPR-Adult, Child, and Infant 
To give individuals in the workplace/community the knowledge and skills necessary to recognize and provide basic care for breathing, cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses, until advances medical personnel arrive and take over.

Prerequisites: None
Certificates Issued and Validity Period:
CPR - Adult, Child and Infant CPR: 2 year
Standard First Aid: 2 years

Standard First Aid with CPR/AED Adult and Child plus Infant CPR
To give individuals in the workplace/community the knowledge and skills necessary to recognize and provide basic care for breathing, cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses, including how to use and automated external defibrillator (AED) for victims of sudden cardiac arrest, until advances medical personnel arrive and take over.
Prerequisites: None
Certificates Issued and Validity Period:
CPR/AED - Adult plus Child and Infant CPR: 2 years
Standard First Aid: 2 years

Adult, Child, Infant CPR
To give individuals in the workplace/community the knowledge and skills necessary to recognize and provide basic care for breathing, cardiac emergencies, for adults, children and infants until advances medical personnel arrive and take over.

CPR/AED - Adult plus Child and Infant CPR: 2 year

Standard First Aid

CPR/AED for the  Professional Rescuer and Health Care Provider 
To teach those with the duty to act CPR, two-person rescuer CPR and the use of bag-valve and pocket mask, how to use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), rescue breathing and cares for choking for adults, children, and infants. Recommended for professional rescuers (those with a duty to respond), athletic trainers, nursing students, lifeguards, emergency response teams, and health care professionals.

Prerequisites: None
Certificate Issued and Validity Period:
CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer: 2 years

Babysitting Training
The purpose of the American Red Cross Babysitter’s Training course is to provide individuals, ages 11 to 15, with the information and skills necessary to provide safe and responsible care for children in the absence of their parents or adult guardians. This training will help participants develop skills in leadership and professionalism: basic care, safety play: and first aid.

Certification Requirements:
* Must be 11 years of age by the last scheduled date of the course, successfully complete all observable skills outlined in the course; and participate in all required lesson activities.
Certificate Issued and Validity Period:
Babysitting Training: N/A
Child/Infant CPR: 2 year

Water Safety Today
Designed to help increase safety wherever and whenever water sports are enjoyed.  Class is especially important for baby sitters and foster care parents who may have a pool or spa on their property.  To register please call the Kern Chapte at 661-3247-6427.

(California Child Care) Adult, Child, Infant CPR and Pediatric First Aid 
To teach child care providers when and how to provide first aid for common childhood injuries as well as other first aid considerations and to prepare individuals in child care sitting to provide care for breathing emergencies, perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Prerequisites: None
Certificate Issued and Validity Period:
(CA Child Care) Pediatric First Aid: 2 years
CPR- Adult plus Child and Infant CPR: 2 year

(CA Child Care) Preventative Health and Safety
To teach child care providers how to prevent common childhood injuries and infectious diseases, how to handle and store food safely, how to care for ill children as well as other child care provisions.
NOTE: Child Care workers must also take (CA Child Care) Pediatric First Aid to meet California State EMSA requirements.  To register please call the Kern Chapte at 661-324-6427.
 
Prerequisites: Adult, Child Infant CPR and CA Child Care First Aid
Certificate Issued and Validity Period:
CA Child Care Preventative Health & Safety: N/A (only needs to be taken once)

Pet First Aid
Learn the symptoms and how to care for common ailments and emergencies in both cats and dogs. Tips on maintaining your pet's health and what to do in life threatening situations.

All classes will be held at the chapter unless other wise stated.

 

You may register by phone with payment by credit card, in person, or by mail.   Payment must be received before we can "save your place" in any class.    

Attendance:  Please be on time, late comers will not be allowed into class;  This means everyone.  Failing to attend a class in which you are registered will result in forfeiting the course fee.  Please no walk ins.


Clothing
:  Wear comfortable clothing.  You will be working with training manikins on the floor.
 
Card Reprint:  Please fiill out the Replacement Certificate Form

Health Precautions:  You should postpone participating in CPR classes if you are suffering from or have been exposed to any temporary infection, or if you have any cuts or sores.  You may ask to use a seperate CPR training manikin if you have a chronic or acute condition but are unable to postpone training.

Physical Activity:  Most classes require physical activities, frequent kneeling and moving about on the floor, and using physical effort to perform certain skills.  Students must be able to perform all skills satisfactorily.  Special needs should be addressed before registration.  Please wear appropriate attire for physical activities. 

Prerequisite:  For any course requiring prior training you must have proof of training at the first class meeting (your instructor will ask to see it).

Refunds:  Sorry, we have a no refund policy.

Transfers:  A transfer can only take place if we are notified 48 hours before the class.
